The Department of Philosophy at McGill University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor commencing August 1, 2018. AOS: Ethics. Candidates must hold a PhD at the time of taking up the appointment. They should have already demonstrated excellence in both research and teaching. The successful applicant will be expected to teach across core areas of ethics and to contribute in other ways to the department’s teaching strengths. In addition to our rigorous undergraduate programme, we have a small professionalized doctoral programme that attracts excellent students in a range of fields. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. McGill University is Canada’s most international university, with an outstanding record of scholarship in many fields. The main campus of the University is located in the centre of Montreal, a vibrant multicultural city in the francophone province of Quebec. The language of instruction at McGill is English. The Department of Philosophy is diverse in its areas of research excellence and respectful of this diversity. We encourage applications from individuals who can contribute to this pluralism, who work, or are open to conversations, across traditional philosophical boundaries, and who can complement our existing research strengths. (For information about these strengths, please see http://www.mcgill.ca/philosophy/). Applications should include: a cover letter; a current curriculum vitae; a research dossier comprising a statement of research interests and a sample of academic writing (20 to 30 pages); a statement outlining the applicant’s approach to teaching and teaching experience, together with teaching evaluations where available (maximum 10 pages total); and three letters of reference. PLEASE APPLY ONLINE AT: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/9934. Deadline for receipt of applications and all supporting material: November 1, 2017. Inquiries about this position may be sent to the Department at [email protected]. McGill University is committed to diversity and equity in employment. It welcomes applications from: women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, ethnic minorities, persons of minority sexual orientation or gender identity, visible minorities, and others who may contribute to diversification. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply; however, in accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
