Job description

With an outstanding reputation for excellence in teaching, research and the employability of our students, the Department of Philosophy is one of the UK’s best.  Our distinctive research environment encourages a diversity of interests and approaches - from Anglo-American, to ‘Continental’, to non-Western philosophy - and benefits from an exceptionally high level of funding and collaboration.

The Department of Philosophy seeks to appoint three exceptional scholars to Assistant Professor level with research and teaching interests in 1) ethics, 2) ethics and/or philosophy of social science and 3) business ethics.

The successful applicants will have an outstanding record of research in one of the above areas and a commitment to excellent research-led teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The successful applicants will be expected to contribute to the lively research culture of the Department and will also take on some administrative responsibilities.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to make a major contribution to the development of the Department’s research and teaching. Our research is structured around five research clusters: 1. Aesthetics, Ethics and Politics; 2. Applied Phenomenology; 3. History of Philosophy; 4. Mind, Language and Metaphysics and 5. Science, Medicine and Society. The Department’s broad aim is to sustain and enhance our distinctive tradition of research, building on the existing strengths of our research clusters so as to develop world-leading concentrations of research expertise across all our clusters.

Successful applicants will, ideally, be in post by the 1st September 2018.
