Job description

Carnegie Mellon University is offering several postdoctoral research fellowships in all fields represented at the university, coupled with faculty mentoring, professional development and academic networking opportunities. These fellowships are one-year, with the possibility of renewal for a second academic year. Carnegie Mellon views these postdoctoral fellowships as providing an exceptional opportunity to recruit potential new faculty to the university by offering the possibility of a postdoc with the prospect of a succeeding faculty position.

The Carnegie Mellon Department of Philosophy encourages recent PhDs who are interested in this program to apply. The university seeks applicants whose research or creative practice, teaching, and service will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education. The program is particularly interested in scholars with the potential to bring to their research and undergraduate teaching the critical perspective that comes from their non-traditional educational background or understanding of the experiences of groups historically underrepresented in higher education. More information about the program can be found at: http://www.cmu.edu/faculty-office/ppfp/index.html.

Applicants must have received their Ph.D. by July 1, 2018. Applications should include a thesis abstract; research proposal; education and background statement; curriculum vitae; and writing sample. Detailed application information can be found at: http://www.cmu.edu/faculty-office/ppfp/applicants/application.html.

Applicants must provide a letter and mentoring plan from a CMU faculty member; interested individuals are urged to contact appropriate faculty in the department sufficiently far in advance of the application deadline https://www.cmu.edu/dietrich/philosophy/people/index.html.

Faculty mentor and reference letters are due by December 1; the full application is due by December 15. Only U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible for these fellowships.
