Job description |
The Worcester State University Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor to begin September 1, 2018. Qualifications: Ph.D. or advanced ABD in Philosophy. The successful applicant will demonstrate strong teaching skills, an active research program, and the ability to engage with a diverse community of state university undergraduates. Four/four course load with the possibility of one online course per semester. No more than three course preparations per semester. AOS: Open AOCs: Some combination of the following areas of teaching competence: Aesthetics, Analytic Philosophy, Ancient Philosophy, Latin American Philosophy, Philosophy of Science Possible courses: History of Ancient Western Philosophy; Latin American Philosophy; Philosophy of Science; Logic; Topics in Analytic Philosophy; Topics in Philosophy of Race, Gender, Sexuality, and/or Class; Computer Ethics, and Human Rights. In addition, the successful candidate will be prepared to teach regularly some combination of Introduction to Philosophy, Critical Thinking, and Ethics. About teaching in the Philosophy Department at Worcester State University: We are a small, pluralist, collegial department offering a wide range of philosophy courses to the entire university community. We share a commitment to realizing critical pedagogical practices in all of our courses. We strive to be generalists in teaching philosophy even as many of us conduct active research programs in specialized, often interdisciplinary, areas, and we support each other in these pursuits. The department plays a significant role in campus and community activism and in the creation and growth of campus-wide interdisciplinary programming: members regularly teach and take leadership roles in Global Studies, Women’s Studies, and Liberal Studies. |

Review of applications will begin in mid-December 2017. The committee plans to conduct video phone interviews in mid-January 2018 and on-campus interviews beginning in mid-February 2018. Starting date for the position is September 1, 2018.
