Job description

The Critical Theory Cluster at Northwestern University invites applications for a two-year Andrew W. Mellon post-doctoral research and teaching fellowship in Latin American and Caribbean critical theory and/or Latin American and Caribbean critical race studies, with ability to teach at least one course in Latina/Latinx/Latin American critical gender, queer, and feminist philosophy. The fellowship will begin Fall 2018. The appointment is funded through a grant by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The appointment complements a number of other initiatives at the intersections of Critical Theory, Critical Race Studies and Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Northwestern University.

In addition to engaging in scholarly writing and research, the post-doctoral fellow will devise and teach two introductory courses per year, and make an intellectual contribution to initiatives at Northwestern funded by the 2017-2020 grant: Critical Theory in the Global South.  Ability to teach in both Spanish and English is highly desirable. Teaching and research informed by intersections of aesthetic and political dimensions will be advantageous. Courses will contribute to the Critical Theory undergraduate minor and the Critical Theory graduate certificate, and will be cross-listed between appropriate combinations of the departments of Spanish and Portuguese and the Department of Philosophy; and the programs of Latin American and Caribbean Studies; Comparative Literary Studies, and Gender and Sexuality Studies.

The appointee’s research, teaching, and administrative contributions will complement a new program of teaching and research initiatives of Northwestern’s Critical Theory in the Global South Initiative. These can be consulted at: http://www.criticaltheory.northwestern.edu/mellon-project/critical-theory-in-the-global-south/

For information about the Northwestern’s Critical Theory Cluster and minor, see: http://www.criticaltheory.northwestern.edu

Eligibility is restricted to applicants who have received the Ph.D. after September 1st, 2015 and do not hold concurrent employment at another institution. All requirements of the PhD must be completed by September 1, 2018.

Candidates should submit a letter of application, a CV, a teaching portfolio, three letters of recommendation, and a writing sample. Specific course proposals will play an important role in selection. All candidates must submit documents electronically by February 20, 2018 to ensure full consideration. Review of applications will begin immediately.
