Job Summary:

Anticipated Term of Appointment: Two consecutive terms; Fall 2018 and Winter 2019.

Anticipated Appointment Effort: Part-time 26.80 hours; 67% effort; two courses per term. This is a two-term, non-tenure track position. Near the end of Winter 2019, the Department may evaluate potential reappointment for one year. 

Responsibilities:

The College of Literature, Science, and Arts and the Department of Philosophy at the University of Michigan invite applications for a LEO Lecturer I position for the Academic Year 2018-2019.

The successful applicant will provide key instructional support for the major in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE), by teaching two courses each academic term including:

PPE300: Introduction to Political Economy. This course addresses the integrated study of the relationships of government, political processes, property, production, markets, trade, and distribution from the standpoint of assessing these institutions with respect to the interests and progress of humanity. This is the gateway course for the PPE major.

Additional courses are subject to curricular need in the PPE program and applicant expertise, but may also include PPE 400, the capstone course for PPE major, a senior seminar that involves intensive writing, to fulfill an upper-level writing requirement for undergraduates in the College of LSA.

Required Qualifications:

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in philosophy or a related field, and have expertise not only in philosophy but also in at least one of the social sciences relevant to the PPE concentration. The candidate must have demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching. 

Desired Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching for a PPE program.

Decision making process

The Chair of the Department, in conjunction with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, will make the hiring decision.  Decisions will be made on or around March 19, 2018.
