POSITION DESCRIPTION: Recruitment for 1-2 full-time instructors of philosophy for Fort Hays State University (FHSU) stationed at Sias International University (http://en.sias.edu.cn/) in Henan Province, China with opportunity for annual renewal. Each faculty position in China is an annual assignment as a non-tenure-track instructor or assistant professor, subject to annual review with possibility of continuation. China-based FHSU Philosophy faculty members report to the FHSU Department of Philosophy Chair. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in philosophy or related discipline is required. Candidates must meet minimum standards for academic qualification consistent with HLC accreditation. Applicants must possess a US Green Card or be a citizen of the US. Successful candidates also must be eligible to apply for and receive a Z visa, residence permit, and work permit in China. FHSU will assist in acquiring, processing and paying for these documents. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in philosophy or related discipline. Some experience teaching philosophy at the undergraduate level is preferred. Experience teaching applied ethics and/or logic is preferred. Familiarity with teaching ESL/EFO students, international students, especially Chinese students, is preferred. RANK: Instructor (MA) or Assistant Professor (PhD) RESPONSIBILITIES: The course load is twenty-four (24) credit hours for the period of the contract; i.e. four (4) courses per semester. This position will teach philosophy classes (up to 60 students each) that are required for students majoring in Global Business English or Leadership Studies. All courses will be delivered in English. Limited research and service is required. After training in August, the faculty member will teach these classes face-to-face for FHSU in Xinzheng, China for the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters. The faculty member will live on campus with other FHSU international faculty.
