The Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Groningen is a vibrant, international community of excellent researchers. It consistently receives the highest evaluations both for research and for teaching among Philosophy departments in the Netherlands. The Faculty has three departments: History of Philosophy, Theoretical Philosophy, and Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy.

Scholarships
We offer two three-year scholarships to complete a PhD in Philosophy. Applications are invited from high quality prospective PhD students with a good fit with the research specialisms and expertise of our academic staff. Qualifications
Candidates should have completed a master’s degree in Philosophy, preferably a two-year research master or equivalent, by 1 September 2018. They should have an excellent academic record, a very good command of English, and strong academic writing skills.

Scholarship conditions
The successful candidates will receive a grant of €1,700 per month, with wage tax and social insurance premiums already deducted. They will be required to be resident in Groningen and will be enrolled in the Graduate School of Philosophy. They will initially be offered a scholarship of one year; prolongation of the scholarship for a further two years is contingent on sufficient progress in the first year.

You can apply for these scholarships until 15 March 2018. Your application should include:

* a brief letter of motivation
* a CV, including contact details of two academic referees
* a research proposal of up to 2000 words, including a list of potential supervisors at the Faculty of Philosophy
* a writing sample of no more than 5000 words, such as an essay or part of a master’s thesis
* transcripts of your academic degrees.
