San Francisco State University’s Department of Philosophy offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Ancient Greek/Roman Philosophy beginning August 2019. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service to the excellence of our diverse academic community. The Department of Philosophy is a dynamic teaching and research program with a long history of achievement. It offers two B.A. degrees (in Philosophy and in Philosophy and Religion) and the M.A. degree (in Philosophy), a Pre-Law Emphasis, and a rich array of courses that address the diverse backgrounds of its faculty and students. Its M.A. program attracts students from around the world and has a successful record of placing graduates in doctoral programs and teaching positions. Responsibilities: The position requires graduate and undergraduate teaching in Ancient Greek or Roman Philosophy, mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing program of scholarship in one’s area of specialty, and ongoing committee and service assignments.
