Terms and conditions

This is an agreement between you, The PhilPapers Foundation, and The American Philosophical Association (we will refer to the Foundation and the APA as "us"). In using this service, you agree to the following terms:

1. All information (such as announcements, ads, descriptions, etc) to which you may have access through this service is the responsibility of the copyright holder and is subject to their intellectual property rights. Users may not modify, sell, or reproduce such information unless given permission by the copyright holder. Users may not submit material in a manner that violates the intellectual property rights associated with that material.

2. When submitting content (e.g. an ad or announcement) to this service, you give us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive licence to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, display, and distribute this content. You also certify that a) you are entitled to give such rights and b) you have made all reasonable efforts to insure that the information submitted is accurate. The copyright holder of the submitted content (whether you or someone else) retains the copyright.

3. We reserve the right (but shall have no obligation) to pre-screen, review, flag, filter, modify, refuse or remove any information submitted to the service.

4. Our services are offered without any warranty. In spite of our best efforts, our database may well contain inaccuracies due to the fallible nature of the crowd-driven process by which it is populated. Our software has bugs, both known and unknown, which could cause loss of information or other malfunctions. In using this service you agree not to hold us, its maintainers, and backers liable for any loss or damages you might incur as a result.

5. We reserve the right to deny access to the service, and to remove any user-submitted content that we deem inappropriate, including content judged inappropriate per clause 6 below. You agree not to hold us liable for removal of information or its consequences.

6. Submitters of job ads agree to respect our nondiscrimination policy and relevant APA policies. This includes avoiding "all forms of discrimination based on race, color, religion, political convictions, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identification or age, whether in graduate admissions, appointments, retention, promotion and tenure, manuscript evaluation, salary determination, or other professional activities in which philosophers characteristically participate." We take the view that physical requirements specified by a job ad that unnecessarily exclude members of protected classes such as disabled persons are inconsistent with this policy.

7. Downloading and use of the job ads and appointment data published on this site for the purposes of analysis and research (without republication) is permitted.

8. It is our policy to address any notices of copyright infringement regarding material hosted by or linked from this site in a timely manner. Such notices (and counter-notices) should be sent to our designated copyright agent, David Bourget. It is our policy to do all that is legal and practical to prevent repeated copyright infringements from third parties using this service.
