Applications are invited for a new Chair in Politics and Philosophy in the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS). You will be an outstanding scholar with an international reputation in the field of Politics and Philosophy.


PAIS welcomes applications in areas of security and ethics, especially in relation to counter-terrorism; states of exception and emergency, where these topics are pursued at the intersection of political philosophy and law; and ethics and public policy in regard to non-ideal political theory and engagement with public policy issues under real world constraints, such as finance, electoral and party politics, and public health.


You will be required to deliver high quality publications in Politics and Philosophy to complement PAIS's existing research profile and to enhance its REF submission. In addition, you will be expected already to hold and bids for external funding of research, and to have credible plans for obtaining more in the future.


You will possess a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline, and a record of outstanding international publications in Politics and Philosophy. You will have evidence of an innovative research agenda supported, by external funding together with a strategy for developing individual or collaborative bids for external research funding. Demonstrable capacity to offer excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels is essential, as well as ability and willingness to teach modules in Politics and Philosophy at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
