California Lutheran University invites applications for a two-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy in Epistemology (with the possibility to apply for tenure track) beginning in the fall of 2019. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Philosophy. ABD accepted and would be hired at Instructor level until acquired. The successful candidate should have a strong background (AOS) in Epistemology (especially Social Epistemology) and competence (AOC) in Philosophy of Race and/or Gender, or Feminism, or Latin American Philosophy, or Africana Philosophy (an ability to teach Metaphysics, Philosophy of Race and/or Gender, and Introduction to Philosophy is required, and an ability to teach Latin American Philosophy and Social Ethics is preferred). Teaching experience (and/or strong potential), a strong record of research, and an interest in public and pre-college philosophy is desirable. The standard teaching load is three courses per semester and the successful candidate is expected to work with colleagues from other disciplines to participate in constructive dialogue on issues that we are facing in the 21st century by building upon sources from across intellectual streams. It is also expected that, after the first year of teaching, the person hired will take an active role in first-year advising. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in meeting the needs of our growing Latino/a student body. Cal Lutheran is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and a McNair institution.
