The Department of Philosophy at West Virginia University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting August 2018. AOS: At least one of the following: Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Science (including neuroscience), Philosophy of Race, Philosophy of Sex and Gender. AOC: At least two of the following: Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Race, Philosophy of Sex and Gender, Metaphysics, Environmental Philosophy, Philosophy of Technology. A doctorate in philosophy by the time of appointment is required. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong program of research and excel at undergraduate teaching. The teaching load is three courses per semester. The WVU Philosophy Department is an intellectually vibrant, supportive, and collegial undergraduate program with all of the opportunities and expectations of a research university. WVU is a comprehensive, land-grant, research university located in Morgantown, WV, and is home to approximately 29,000 students. The Morgantown metro-region has a population of approximately 120,000, and is frequently ranked as one of the best college towns in the US. Morgantown is a safe, inclusive, and family-friendly city, approximately 75 miles south of Pittsburgh; 200 miles from Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Cleveland; and 300 miles from Cincinnati and Philadelphia.
