Job description |
The Department of Philosophy at Simon Fraser University invites applications for a continuing full-time teaching faculty position at the rank of Lecturer, beginning July, 2019. Area of specialization: Applied Ethics, broadly construed to include theoretical and applied ethics, political philosophy, and philosophy of law. Area of competence: open, but must be able to teach an upper-level course on Law and Philosophy. The successful candidate will have demonstrated exemplary teaching ability. Teaching breadth, including an ability to incorporate indigenous issues in teaching, will be positively assessed. Duties include teaching at every level, from large (TA-supported) first-year courses through to advanced undergraduate and graduate seminars, as well as administrative service. The Department encourages and supports the professional development of its lecturers through travel funding, study leaves, and other opportunities. Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in Philosophy by the time of appointment. Minimum starting salary is CAD 77,839. Position is subject to approval by the board of governors and the availability of funding. This is an entry-level position; only those holding or eligible to be promoted to the rank of Lecturer will be considered.
