The Philosophy Department at the University of Massachusetts Boston (https://www.umb.edu/academics/cla/philosophy) invites applications for a fulltime non-tenure-track Lecturer position starting September 1, 2019. The benefited position is a one-year, renewable contract to teach four courses per semester. Contract renewal and promotion are solely based on teaching and relevant service and there is no expectation of research contributions in evaluating performance. However, non-tenure-track faculty play a prominent role in the department, often contributing to its intellectual life.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a PhD in philosophy conferred no later than 9/1/2019.
  • At least a year’s teaching experience, evidence of teaching excellence, and the ability to teach Phil 100 (Introduction to Philosophy), Phil 108 (Moral and Social Problems), and Phil 207G (The Meaning of Life).
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching a diverse student population (in terms of race, ethnicity, age, language, and economic background).
  • Applications from members of groups of under-represented in the discipline are strongly encouraged.
