The Philosophy Department at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse invites applications for a one-year, fixed-term position as Associate Lecturer beginning August 26, 2019. Minimum qualifications: MA; ABD or Ph.D. preferred. AOS: Open. AOC: History of Western Philosophy. Under general supervision of the department chair, a person in this position is responsible for teaching 4 undergraduate courses per semester. The hire must be able to teach History of Ancient Philosophy and History of Modern Philosophy, courses for philosophy majors and minors, as well as an Introduction to Logic course that serves as an alternative to mathematics in the General Education program. In addition to preparing for and holding classes (face to face, hybrid, and/or online), teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students’ work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. In addition, workload may involve advising students and/or providing other service to the department; other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.
