Job description

Applications are invited for a research and teaching postdoctoral fellowship to be held under the auspices of the Department of Philosophy at McMaster University during the 2019-20 academic year. We welcome applications from candidates with research and teaching interests in the areas of philosophy of law, ethics, and political philosophy.

Pending funding and at the discretion of the department, this position is renewable, but not beyond a second year.

Supervisor:                        Dr. Stefan Sciaraffa

Renumeration:                 $50,000 per year plus $5,000 for Research or Publication Expenses

This position is included within the Canadian Union of Public Employees (“CUPE”) Local 3906 Unit 3, representing Post-Doctoral Fellows.

Description of Role:  The fellow will be expected to present a paper as part of the department’s weekly speaker series and to contribute to the intellectual life of our community of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates.

The fellow will teach two courses per academic year. See the department website for further details about the department’s two main Honours BA Programs: the Philosophy Honours BA and the Justice, Political Philosophy and Law Honours BA.


Qualifications:  The successful applicant must have completed all requirements for the PhD in philosophy by the starting date of the position, July 1, 2019.  To be eligible to apply, the applicant must have neither held a tenure-track position nor been awarded a PhD in philosophy prior to January 1, 2014.
