Job description

Soka University is located in Hachioji, a suburb of Tokyo and major university community, and founded on the principles of humanistic education. We are in the process of establishing a new Faculty of International Studies with the Department of International Liberal Arts in April 2014.

Content of Work

  1. Teach at least 2 specialized courses for undergraduate students. It is desirable that one of the courses will cover issues related to 'Modern Political and Social Thought': e.g. social contract, the state and civil society, Marx and Marxism, liberal democracy, modern society and other relevant topics. Another course will be related to the applicant's research field.  
  2. Teach at least 1 basic course ('Introduction to History, Culture and Society') for undergraduate students.
  3. Conduct specialized seminars for 3rd and 4th year students.
  4. Participate in educational and administrative activities organized by the Faculty.
  5. Conduct research in applicant's research field.

Job Type:

Professor, Associate Professor, and Lecturer level. Tenure-track position with initial four-year contract. Upon contract completion, achievements in research and instruction will be reviewed by the Faculty Review Committee.

  2. A Ph.D. in related field in hand is required at the time of application.
  3. At least 2 years of teaching experience at university level is highly desirable.
