The Department of Philosophy at California State University, San Bernardino, invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2020. 

The Area of Specialization is Ancient (Greek or Roman) Philosophy. The Area of Concentration is open but preference may be given to candidates whose teaching competencies include Asian Philosophy or Medieval Philosophy, or other areas that will help the Department diversify its curriculum.

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire, 60 miles east of Los Angeles and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley. CSUSB serves approximately 20,000 students, of which 81% are first-generation college students, and graduates about 5,000 students annually. Typical Activities

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate classes in the university's General Education program and for majors in Philosophy. Service responsibilities in the department, including academic advising for our majors, are shared equally among all tenure-track/tenured faculty. The department and the university expect the successful candidate to undertake a meaningful program of original research as part of achieving tenure and maintaining currency in the field.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

In addition, new faculty are encouraged to develop and participate in activities that support the University's strategic plan. This plan emphasizes: a) student success; b) faculty and staff success; c) stewarding resources; d) community engagement and partnerships; and, e) enhancing the campus identity. Minimum Qualifications

A PhD in Philosophy or a related field is required by time of appointment.
