Job description

Chapman University seeks applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Philosophy in the Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, to be affiliated with the Smith Institute for Political Economy and Philosophy, beginning August 2020.

The philosophy department offers a general curriculum in philosophy to Chapman University undergraduate students and fosters a strong commitment to research activity. The department has particular needs in Ancient Philosophy, and welcomes the integration of research and teaching with other disciplines. Candidates that would increase the department’s diversity are particularly encouraged to apply.

The mission of the Smith Institute is to reintegrate the study of the humanities and economics in the spirit of Adam Smith, the author of The Theory of Moral Sentiments and An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, and to recombine research and undergraduate education as a discovery process in the spirit of Vernon Smith, a progenitor of experimental economics.
