Job description

We invite applications for a full-time two year post-doctoral position in the philosophy of physics. The position is funded by the Swedish Research Council grant: "Non-Emperical Theory Confirmation in fundamental Physics" led by professor Richard Dawid.

Project description
We seek scholars with an intrest in epistemic issues related to fundamental physics. The postdoc will work on the subject of theory assessment and confirmation, either in the context of contemporary fundamental physics or with a focus on physical theories of the 19th and 20th century.

Main responsibilities
The postdoc will be expected to produce high-quality research on the project, individually and in close collaboration with the principal investigator. The Fellow will be expected to publish the results of his/her research in authoritative international journals and conferences and to disseminate them via international conferences, workshops, seminars and other suitable events. The postdoc may also be required to assist with some administrative work related to the project, such as organising related conferences, workshops, and seminars. Teaching duties may be involved but not exceeding 20 % of the workload.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar.

Applications are invited by highly motivated and competent individuals with research experience and expertise relevant to the project. In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills.

Candidates should have expertise in the philosophy of physics, preferably including expertise related to the epistemic issues to be addressed in the research project.

The position does not require knowledge of Swedish, as the research on the project will be conducted and published in English.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 1 February 2020 or as per agreement.

Stockholm University strives to be a workplace free from discrimination and with equal opportunities for all.
