The Philosophy program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) seeks an Assistant Professor of Philosophy (tenure-track) with an AOS: Open (Ethics, Health, Medicine, Biomedical Sciences) and AOC: Ethics with an anticipated start date of August 17, 2020. We are looking for a candidate who can build bridges across disciplinary boundaries on issues related to the areas of ethics, health, medicine, and the biomedical sciences. The position carries a standard 3-3 teaching load, research, and service expectations. The PhD in Philosophy is required before August 17, 2020. The successful candidate will be connected to the newly established program in Medical Humanities within the Kooser Health Humanities Center focusing on the role that humanities, social sciences, and healing arts play in enhancing wellness and reducing illness in the lives of patients, families, communities, and health care professionals To support a vision of a nationally recognized program and promote interdisciplinary collaboration in the Medical Humanities, UNO is conducting simultaneous hires within anthropology, geography, and philosophy. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to engage with relevant researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. UNO is a Doctoral/Research institution with over 15,000 students. The Philosophy program at UNO offers three different concentrations within its Philosophy major: (i) Generalist; (ii) Ethics, Law, and Social-Political Philosophy; and (iii) Philosophy of Brain and Mind. UNO has a strong commitment to achieving diversity among faculty and staff. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from members of under-represented groups and strongly encourage women and persons of color to apply. The University of Nebraska does not discriminate based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, and/or political affiliation in its programs, activities, or employment. |
