The Department of Philosophy at the University of Washington invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Philosophy with AOS: Philosophy of Science with a focus on either data-intensive science or biological science, and AOC: open. This is a full-time, tenure eligible position with an anticipated start date of September 2020. Tenure track faculty have an annual service period of nine months (Sept 16-June 15). All University of Washington faculty engage in research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust research program that complements existing scholarship in the department; teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; serve on dissertation committees and mentor graduate and undergraduate students; actively participate in service to the university, profession, and broader communities; and promote a diverse and inclusive community of faculty, staff, and students. The UW Department of Philosophy is a vibrant community of philosophers committed to excellence in research and teaching. We aim to foster interdisciplinary conversations in which philosophical tools and methods are brought to bear upon problems and topics of public interest. The Department has a strong research cluster in philosophy of science, and the university is home to world class STEM departments. We are the editorial home for the journal Philosophy of Science. We host the Neuroethics Thrust research team and the Center for Philosophy for Children.
