Assistant/Associate/Full (research) Professor Fudan Philosophy and Science of Intelligence (PSI) Center The kind of specializations that count as Ethics of Intelligence-related Science and Technology may include Beneficial AI, Ethics of Big Data, Risks of AI technology, Privacy and Autonomy with AI and Big Data. The Center is a newly established joint center between The Department of Philosophy of Science and Logic (PSL) and The Institute for the Science and Technology of Brain-Inspired Intelligence (ISTBI). It is a fully collaborative research and educational center for philosophers and scientists in pursuit of foundational, practical, and moral issues in intelligence related areas. It is a center that contains and recruits its own (joint) researchers, visiting fellows, graduate students, and postdocs. There is no undergraduate teaching in the center, but members may offer upper level courses in The Department of PSL within School of Philosophy. The center is initiated by two international faculty members in philosophy (Malcolm Forster, originally from UW Madison, and Chuang Liu, originally from University of Florida) and their counterparts in ISTBI. It has an ambitious fully international recruiting agenda of researchers, postdocs, and graduate students. It offers an environment of English as working language and an international graduate program. Fudan PSI Center invites applications for 1 Assistant/Associate/Full research professor position. Salary will be internationally competitive for well qualified candidates. The initial appointment is for 3-5 years. Responsibilities include graduate teaching (no more than 8 credit hours per year), thesis supervision, and research workshop and conference organization. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in a discipline related to at least one of the areas listed by the time of appointment, a solid research record appropriate to his or her stage of career, and excellent communication skills. We are especially interested in candidates who have developed a systematic program of research concerning core questions that are well grounded in the best contemporary science. Fudan University Fudan University, located in Shanghai, China, is a C9 League university that is one of the most prestigious and selective universities in China, currently ranked 3rd in China. The university enrolls over 45,000, including full-time students and students in continuing education and online education. Additionally, there are nearly 1,760 international students, ranking second nationally. Fudan is composed of four campuses in Shanghai -- Handan, Fenglin, Zhangjiang, and Jiangwan -- which share the same central administration. The School of Philosophy is located on Handan campus and in the West Tower of Guanghua Towers (23-25 Floors), and ISTBI is located in the East Tower (23 Floor), which is also where Fudan PSI Center will be housed. The School of Philosophy at Fudan University is one of two A+ ranked schools of philosophy in China. |
