The Department of Philosophy at Swarthmore College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor. Starting with the Fall semester of 2020, this is a three-year appointment. Swarthmore College is a highly selective liberal arts college, located in the suburbs of Philadelphia, whose mission combines academic rigor with social responsibility. Area of Specialization: Open. Area of Competence: Non-western philosophy. The successful candidate will be expected to teach 4 or 5 courses (undergraduate) per year. Ph.D. required by time of appointment. Salary very competitive. QualificationsThe successful candidate will be expected to teach historically informed introductory-level courses, as well as one or more upper-level courses in non-western philosophy. The strongest candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to creative teaching and an active research program that speaks to and motivates undergraduates from diverse backgrounds.
