Job description

The position is part of the Spinoza Prize Project of Prof. Lodi Nauta, who has received the Spinoza Prize 2016 from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).

Job description

The Postdoc will carry out research in the Department of the History of Philosophy; you will also be involved in the activities of the Groningen Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Thought, which is based in this department. Your research will focus on medieval philosophy and/or early-modern philosophy (up to the Enlightenment). We expect you to teach some courses, co-supervise PhDs, organize workshops and lectures, and assist in the daily running of the department. And also to submit a research proposal to the NWO in the course of your fellowship. Knowledge of Dutch is no requirement.

Qualifications

• PhD in philosophy
• a strong publication record (depending on career stage)
• a clear research plan, and a clear idea on how this fits in with the overall research profile of the group
• record of some teaching (depending on career stage)
• an excellent command of English, both in writing and in speaking
• intellectual drive, enthusiasm and open-mindedness
• international network or record of international collaboration is an advantage.

Conditions of employment

In accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, we offer:

• a salary of between € 3,255 and € 4,274 gross per month (salary scale 10)
• a full-time position for 4 years (1.0 FTE)
• a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income
• an 8.3% year-end bonus
• minimum of 29 holidays and additional 12 holidays in case of full-time employment.

Starting date: 1 May 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter, but no later than 1 September 2020
