Job description

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Florida invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to pursue work on a project on public trust and algorithmically-assisted decision-making in criminal justice contexts. The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research as part of the project “Algorithmic Policing and Public Trust of Law Enforcement,” which is funded by the University of Florida Consortium on Trust in Media and Technology. The project on trust is a standalone project, but its completion will supplement an ongoing NSF-funded project, “Artificial Intelligence and Predictive Policing: An Ethical Analysis.” Both projects are led by Dr. Duncan Purves. Duties of the Postdoctoral Associate will include conducting and coordinating research activities associated with the funded project, engaging in acts of public scholarship, and participating in Consortium programming and gatherings.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and it includes a full benefits package. This position will be initially awarded for one year and, contingent upon strong performance and conduct, may be renewed for up to one additional year. Qualifications include: PhD in Philosophy or a related field; demonstrated interest in public scholarship; a track record of work in applied ethics; experience preparing conference presentations/posters and journal articles; ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team of researchers; and strong technical report writing and communication.
