The Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University is seeking an exceptional scholar with expertise in ethical theory applied to population and public health for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Further focus on ethical theory applied to global health, infectious disease, and/or climate change health is desirable. The successful candidate will demonstrate the capacity to establish a robust independent research program with a primary focus in the field of health ethics, attract research grants and publish their research in peer-reviewed venues appropriate to their discipline and topical expertise. Candidates should have demonstrated experience and a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate curriculum development related to health ethics. At the undergraduate level, they should expect to teach courses in applied health ethics and the ethics of global health, infectious disease and/or climate change and health. They should also be able to teach graduate-level courses in these areas as well as propose new courses. Supervision of undergraduate Honours degree students, as well as graduate students will also be expected. The Faculty of Health Sciences is committed to social justice, respect for human dignity and equity. Created in 2005, its mission is to improve the health of individuals and populations and to reduce health inequities through excellence in interdisciplinary research and education, in partnership with local, national and global communities. The successful candidate will join a diverse and dynamic team of more than 50 multi-disciplinary faculty members and will have the opportunity to engage with and teach outstanding students in the PhD, MSc, MPH, and BA/BSc programs.

About the Faculty of Health Sciences The Faculty of Health Sciences is research-intensive and attracts approximately $7 million per year in research grants from Canadian and non-Canadian funders. Faculty engage in a broad spectrum of research approaches, methods of inquiry, and levels of analysis informed by the wide-ranging disciplinary expertise among FHS faculty including biostatistics, economics, epidemiology, immunology, international relations, medical anthropology, medical sociology, molecular toxicology, psychiatry, gender studies and public health. FHS now hosts the CIHR Institute of Aboriginal People’s Health, and maintains collaborative agreements and partnerships with the BC government, regional health authorities, research centres, and provincial, national and international health agencies. Beyond the Faculty, SFU is home to a large community of scholars with health-related research interests in engineering, gender, sexuality and women’s health, biostatistics, biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics, kinesiology, psychology, gerontology, anthropology, sociology, Indigenous health and other disciplines. FHS produces a substantial body of research outputs, in the form of peer-reviewed papers in leading scholarly journals, books and book chapters, and policy reports, all of which are regularly cited in the local, national and international media.
