The Department of Philosophy in the School of Social Sciences and Philosophy at Trinity College Dublin invites applications for the post of Chair of Philosophy. The formal title of the Chair, established in 1837, is the Chair of Moral Philosophy; however, qualified candidates from any area of specialization within Philosophy are invited to apply. The post is tenable from 1st August 2020 and arises from the retirement of Professor Peter Simons in 2016.
The successful candidate will have an internationally distinguished research profile in any area of philosophy and will have an excellent track record in both undergraduate teaching and postgraduate supervision. The successful candidate will have an important strategic role to play in maintaining and developing the high international research standing of the Department of Philosophy, in attracting outstanding graduate students, in attracting research funding, and in maintaining and building both philanthropic relations and outreach activities. Candidates should have a proven capacity for effective leadership and governance, and will be expected to undertake senior administrative roles at Departmental, School and College levels.
