Job description

The Department of Political Science at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral/assistant professor position offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join a new research project entitled "A Sense of Belonging: Cultural Copying as a Basis for Group Rights?".

The starting date is 1 September 2020 or subject to mutual agreement.

The research project
The project aims to bring together work on social and human kinds with political philosophy of group and minority rights to address questions about the justifications of group rights and about which groups can have a special moral status. For more information about the project see here.

Job description
We are looking for a highly motivated researcher who will work on the project led by Marion Godman (PI) in collaboration with Kasper Lippert-Rasmussen (Aarhus University) and Nils Holtug (Copenhagen University). The post is funded by 5,7 million DKK grant from the Independent Danish Research Fund (Sapere Aude Research Leader scheme) and hosted at the department of Political Science at Aarhus university.

The successful candidate will work closely with Godman, Holtug and Lippert-Rasmussen as well as with colleagues in the newly established Center for the Experimental-Philosophical Study of Discrimination (CEPDISC) that opens in August 2020 (running until 2026). As part of the research, the successful applicant will therefore also have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities in CEPDISC and at the Political Science department. The candidate may also undertake a small amount of teaching (equivalent to one course per year). The candidate is expected to conduct independent research and attend all project meetings. There is generous funding for conference presentations and research visits.

Your qualifications
Eligible candidates must have:
• A PhD in philosophy, political science, law or another discipline related to the project (or completion by the beginning of the appointment)
• Experience in independent research
• Experience with collaborating and working together with others in a team
• An excellent command of spoken and written English
• A compelling and relevant research proposal

It is desirable if candidates have:
• Have pursued research directly relevant to the research project (e.g. multiculturalism, group rights, gender, race, or ethnicity as kinds)
• Proven experience of publishing high-quality research articles commensurate with career stage

Interested candidates should provide a short research proposal (max. 2 pages), outlining potential avenues for research related to the overall project. Please see the section below about application procedure for the further requirements for the application.
