Position Description

Yale-NUS College is a liberal arts and sciences college with approximately 1000 students and 110 full-time faculty. The College is a collaboration between Yale University and the National University of Singapore. Yale-NUS students are intellectually outstanding, with an acceptance rate of less than 7%, and internationally diverse, representing over seventy countries. They go through a unique and rigorous Common Curriculum (https://www.yale-nus.edu.sg/curriculum/common-curriculum/) in the sciences, social sciences and humanities that combines Western and Eastern traditions with contemporary skills.

The College seeks to hire a full-time Lecturer in Philosophy to teach Philosophy and Political Thought I and II in the Common Curriculum. The successful candidate is expected to teach at least five (5) courses in Academic Year 2020/2021. The majority of these courses will be in Philosophy and Political Thought. The appointment will be for one year, beginning in August 2020.

Eligibility and Qualifications

  • PhD in Philosophy or a related field
  • A proven record of excellent teaching at college level and commitment to effective creative and effective pedagogical approaches for undergraduate teaching and will be an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Teach two (2) sections of Philosophy and Political Thought per semester
  • Teach one (1) elective course in Philosophy
