About the Position:

The Department of Philosophy invites applications from qualified candidates for a one-year Term appointment in Philosophy of Mind; Information Ethics; Mind, World and knowledge; Introductory Philosophy at the rank of Instructor I beginning August 1, 2020.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in the areas indicated, primarily at the first- and second-year levels. There are no research expectations associated with this position.

About the Academic Unit:

The Department of Philosophy (www.carleton.ca/philosophy) combines award-winning teaching with excellence in research. The department's strengths are in two main areas: moral, social, and political philosophy, and the philosophy of mind, language, and knowledge. Several members of the department are active researchers in the history of philosophy. The department has close ties to the Institute of Cognitive Science (www.carleton.ca/ics) and is the administrative home of the Ph.D. program in Ethics and Public Affairs (www.carleton.ca/ethics).

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in philosophy, or least have a reasonable expectation of completing a Ph.D. program in the field within a year's time. Strong background in philosophy of mind, metaphysics, and epistemology is required. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate teaching excellence, whether as part of their Ph.D. program or otherwise. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate fully in the life of the department, and to take on whatever tasks of departmental administration their time and interest allow.
