Job description

Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Ref: 052135

The School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences is seeking to appoint a 1.0 FTE Post-Doctoral Research Associate for a fixed-term period of 30 months.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious researcher to join an Arts and Humanities Research Council funded projected, entitled ‘Varieties of Risk’ (Dr Martin Smith, Edinburgh, Co-I and Dr Philip Ebert, Stirling, PI). One primary aim of this post is to provide an opportunity for an early career academic to develop their own distinctive research profile and engage in networking activities and in impact/outreach activities.

The successful candidate will also be offered the opportunity to strengthen their own teaching profile by engaging in teaching on a topic that is directly relevant to their research interests and/or the topics of the project.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in philosophy and should be at an early career stage. We welcome applicants with research interests in epistemology (traditional or formal), philosophy of psychology, or philosophy of law who are able to demonstrate how their work connects with one or more aspects of the project. Some experience with knowledge exchange and impact activities is desirable. Existing expertise in specific project topics, such as the philosophy of risk or experimental philosophy, would be an additional strength but are not required.

The School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences particularly welcomes applications from candidates belonging to groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in the subject, including, but not limited to, women and ethnic minorities.

This full-time position is 35 hours a week, and is available from September 2020, however start date is negotiable. It is anticipated that interviews will be held July 2020. For informal enquiries please contact Dr Martin Smith: [email protected]

The role is grade UE07 and attracts an annual salary of £33,797  to £ 40,322 for 35 hours, each week.

Closing Date: 17th June 2020
