Job description

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto invites applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship beginning September 2020. This position is part of the project Agency in Living Systems, which is conducted in conjunction with Indiana University, Wesleyan University, Stanford University, and University of Helsinki, and funded by a grant from the John Templeton Foundation. The successful applicant will engage in research directly relevant to the themes of the Agency in Living Systems project (https://agencyinlivingsystems.com). The postdoctoral fellow will have a primary appointment in the Department of Philosophy, but is also expected to engage in activities of the Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IHPST).

Salary: $46,000 CAD p.a.


The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow (pro-rated for those holding a partial appointment) recognizing that the needs of the employee’s research and training and the needs of the supervisor’s research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee’s duties and hours of work.


Employment as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto is covered by the terms of the CUPE 3902 Unit 5 Collective Agreement. This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 5 Collective Agreement.
