Job description

The Department of Philosophy, School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, is seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow in Ethics, to commence on 14th September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a 3 year, 80% time post, with appointment to be made on the Teaching Fellow (Merged) salary scale at point 1 (€34,813 per annum – pro-rata, 80%).

Applicants will be expected to possess a PhD in Philosophy and a sound research profile, relative to career stage, in ethics. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to undergraduate teaching, including the design and coordination of general modules for first and second-year students and specialised, research-led modules for honors students, as well as dissertation supervision at fourth year level. The successful applicant will also contribute to teaching and dissertation supervision for the MPhil in Philosophy.

The Department is seeking an individual with vision and enthusiasm, a genuine commitment to the vital roles of teaching and research, including flair for innovation in course design and teaching methods, and an established record of research and clear potential for future research accomplishment. The successful candidate will be an engaged member of the Philosophy community and will also be required to undertake administrative responsibilities as directed by the Head of Department.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the newly established Trinity Centre for Justice and Values, under the direction of Prof. Adina Preda.

COVID-19 Arrangements

Due to the ongoing pandemic, TCD plans to follow a hybrid teaching model during Michaelmas (Autumn) Term 2020, with modules under 25 students to be delivered in person with appropriate precautions (e.g., social distancing), and modules over 25 students to be delivered remotely. Instructors are free to employ a combination of synchronous and asynchronous delivery. The successful applicant for this position will be expected to be available in person in Dublin as soon as possible.
