The successful candidate must be able to teach Introduction to Ethics and courses in one or more of the following areas: social and political philosophy, philosophy of nonviolence, legal reasoning, legal ethics, mock trial, symbolic logic, or critical thinking.  The teaching load is twelve credit hours per semester.

We are looking first and foremost for an excellent teacher.  Candidates who also have a promising research agenda are desirable.  The Department expects to be hiring tenure-track in the near future, and the person we hire for this visiting position will be welcome to apply for the tenure-track position.  Applicants should have a Ph.D. in hand by August 2021.

The Philosophy Department is committed to enhancing the diversity of our faculty and welcomes applications from under-represented groups and members of all faiths.  Applicants should send the following to hr@sbu.edu: curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness such as summaries of student and peer evaluations, contact information for three professional references, and a cover letter that discusses your approach to teaching and qualifications for the position given the description of responsibilities above.

The deadline for application is January 11, 2021.  Please address specific questions regarding the position to Dr. Russell Woodruff, Chair of Philosophy, woodruff@sbu.edu
