Job description |
The Department of Humanities and Philosophy at the University of Central Oklahoma invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2021. Philosophy Professors teach core curriculum (Introduction to Philosophy, Logic and Critical Thinking, or Contemporary Moral Problems) and upper year undergraduate classes in their area of expertise. Undergraduate Philosophy teaching experience is highly valued. Ability to diversify the curriculum and/or teach in under-served areas of philosophy is highly valued. The regular teaching load for tenure-track faculty is 4/4 per academic year. The position includes usual service activity. This is a 9-month per year, tenure-earning position with the possibility of optional summer teaching. The position is expected to begin August 1, 2021. A Ph.D. in Philosophy is required. The successful applicant will be expected to teach upper division courses that expand the department’s current curriculum offerings. We currently have strengths in the history of European and American philosophy, value theory (broadly construed, including ethics, epistemology, aesthetics, and feminist ethics), and philosophy of science. Ability to teach courses in areas outside the European tradition is strongly preferred (e.g. African/Africana Philosophy, Arabic Philosophy, Asian Philosophy, Latin American Philosophy, Native American Philosophy). Ability to teach courses in other under-served areas of philosophy is also valued. Additionally, applicants are asked to provide a statement that speaks to their lived experience, knowledge, skills, or achievements in diversity, equity, and inclusion work within or transferrable to a higher education setting. . |
