Job description

The Department of Philosophy and the School of Humanities of the University of Navarra seek to fill two fixed-term, full-time Assistant Professor positions in Philosophy, to begin September 2021. The initial contract will be for one year. Depending on performance and mutual interests, the contract may be extended to a second year.

The candidate will join the Philosophy Department, a dynamic unit of 26 professors responsible for the Degree and PhD Program in Philosophy. With 11 research projects and a philosophy journal, the Philosophy Department has a strong reputation. It has links with the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS), a research institute for the humanities. The QS World University Ranking by Subject 2019 places its research among the 51-100 worldwide.


1. Candidates must have obtained their PhD between 31 August 2016 and 1 September 2021.

2. Candidates should be able to teach philosophy both in English and Spanish.

3. Candidates will demonstrate capacity or potential for research.

Part of the candidate’s teaching will be on Core Curriculum subjects. Any previous experience in the teaching of Core Curriculum courses and knowledge of its principles (www.unav.edu/en/web/core-curriculum/what-is-it/principles) will be very positively considered. In light of these principles, the ideal candidate will appreciate the role of culture and society in configuring individuals’ identities, demonstrate knowledge of Christianity and religion, and inspire a reflective attitude in their students to contemporary challenges.
