Job description |
Boston College, Department of Philosophy. Assistant Professor of the Practice, Philosophy; full-time, non tenure-track, 3-year contract (renewable). In exceptional cases, appointment at the rank of Associate Professor of the Practice may be considered. AOS: Open. AOC: Broad familiarity with the history of philosophy. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Philosophy and have a record of demonstrated excellence in teaching philosophy and an interest in research. Responsibilities include contributing to the undergraduate core, specifically the PULSE Program for Service Learning (3-3 course load). The successful candidate would be expected to teach two year-long sections of “Person and Social Responsibility,” that fulfills core requirements in philosophy and theology. This appointment would be for teaching in the Department’s interdisciplinary program involving major texts in philosophical and theological traditions, highlighting ethical and social justice reflection and analysis, for students engaged in service projects (the PULSE Program). Long a leader and innovator in service learning, the PULSE Program educates more than 500 undergraduate students each year through the integration of community-based social service and social advocacy fieldwork with the study of philosophy, theology, and social analysis.
