The Department of Philosophy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks to hire a non-tenure earning (NTE) assistant professor (AOS: Applied Ethics, including Bioethics; AOC: Open). We are particularly interested in hiring a philosopher who is especially competent and well-qualified to teach multiple sections of bioethics on a regular basis. The teaching load is seven courses a year over two semesters. The appointment will initially be for one year, and subject to budgets, enrollments, and good evaluations of teaching, will be renewable for longer contracts. While it is non-tenure earning, this is not a visiting position and it comes with the possibility of promotion after the appropriate years of high-quality service. Completion of a Ph.D. in philosophy is required prior to start of appointment.
The Department of Philosophy at UAB supports an undergraduate major and also serves the core curriculum. Current faculty research is in core areas of analytic philosophy with traditional strengths in ethics, epistemology, and philosophy of science.
