|Location||Oslo, Oslo, Norway|
|Start date||Expected August 2021|
A Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (SKO 1352) is available at the Department of Philosophy, Classics, History of Art and Ideas, University of Oslo.
The Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is funded by the Norwegian Research Council and is associated with the project "Infinity and Intensionality: Towards a New Synthesis" (project number 314435). The candidate is expected to present a research project closely connected to the main project.
The position is available for a period of 3 years. There is a 10 % component of the position which is devoted to teaching and administrative duties.
The main project will undertake an integrated investigation of two clusters of questions, which have so far only been studied in isolation. The first cluster of questions concerns the theory of infinite sets, which is the standard foundation for nearly all of today’s mathematics, but is threatened by paradoxes. The second cluster concerns intensional notion such as propositions, properties, and relations, which are a central concern in linguistics, psychology, and philosophy. Our overarching hypothesis is that real progress can only be made by means of a new synthesis, where the two clusters of questions are tackled in a unified way, thus bringing concepts and theories from each cluster to bear on the other one. More information about the main project is available at https://www.oysteinlinnebo.org/inf-int.
The successful candidate is expected to become part of the research environment/network of the department and contribute to its development. The main purpose of postdoctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.
Expected start date: August 2021.
