Job description |
The Philosophy Department at Mercyhurst University (Erie, PA) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position. Start date: Fall 2021. The position is a continuing non-tenure-track appointment, renewable yearly, contingent upon satisfactory performance and instructional need. The standard course load for MU faculty is eight courses per year. The department is looking for an instructor to teach courses in applied ethics, introduction to logic, and other areas. It is essential that candidates have a broad philosophical education, a record of teaching excellence, and a passion for diversity, interdisciplinarity, public outreach, and social justice. Candidates should be dedicated to teaching undergraduates in our liberal arts core, major, and minor courses. The successful candidate will be someone who can encourage and increase student interest in philosophy and be able to show the relevance and value of philosophical thinking to matters of contemporary ethical, social, and political concern. Areas of specialization: open. Areas of competence: applied ethics, logic/critical thinking, history of philosophy. Advanced doctoral status (ABD) or completed PhD required by the start date.
