Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Denison University invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2021. Areas of specialization and competence are open. We are looking to diversify our faculty and curriculum without replicating current areas of departmental expertise. A successful candidate will complement a small, but pluralistic department with a tradition of excellence both in undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts context and in active and rigorous scholarship. Candidates will teach a three-three course load including an introductory course, a first year writing course on a topic of their choice, and a course in an area of their research interest. Ph.D. by June 1 preferred. Evidence of excellent teaching at the undergraduate level is a necessary condition for appointment. Candidates from historically underrepresented groups in the profession are especially encouraged to apply. Dossiers should include a letter of application addressing the candidate’s potential contributions to the mission of the department (no longer than 2 pages), CV, three letters of recommendation, graduate school transcripts, evidence of successful teaching, and a writing sample. For information about the department, see denison.edu.  Applications should be submitted to: https://employment.denison.edu/postings/3041

Review of applications will begin March 31 and continue until the position is filled.
