Job description |
Position Description The Department of Philosophy at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, invites applications for a limited-term faculty appointment in Continental Philosophy and Social Philosophy. It is acceptable to specialize in just one of those areas (as an area of specialization [AOS]) if one has competence in the other (as an area of competence [AOC]), and one needn't satisfy all the categories listed under AOS and AOC. The teaching load for this position will be mainly drawn from the following courses: a prepared online version of Introduction to Philosophy of Religion (PHIL 266); Philosophy of Social Science (PHIL 324); Philosophy of Feminism (PHIL 371); 20th-Century Continental Philosophy (PHIL 377); From Modern to Postmodern: Philosophical Thought and Cultural Critique (PHIL 275); and Existentialism (PHIL 387). The successful candidate may also be assigned to teach an introductory course on Plato and the Pre-Socratics (PHIL 260), if appropriate. Depending on local pandemic conditions and institutional decisions, some or all of these courses may be delivered remotely. Qualifications and Assets Holding this position requires a PhD in Philosophy and sufficient evidence of being able to effectively teach the courses listed above. Past experience with delivering courses both online and in-person is an asset. Further Details This position is subject to budgetary approval and department/unit need. Individuals holding limited-term appointments may be reappointed, given continued funding and need, as well as satisfactory job performance. Together, initial appointments and subsequent reappointments may not exceed 36 months or a span of three consecutive years. They are normally at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, beginning August 1, 2021 and ending May 14, 2022. Successful candidates will normally be expected to teach three courses per term.
