We wish to appoint a two year, fixed term Lecturer in Philosophy within the Department of Philosophy, which forms part of the School of Philosophical, Anthropological and Film Studies. The successful candidate will teach Contemporary Epistemology and Philosophy of Language to an advanced level, and must therefore be able to demonstrate expertise in these areas. They must also be able to contribute to other core teaching, and to research interaction within the department. The successful candidate will be a scholar with a strong, developing research profile and a commitment to delivering high quality teaching within philosophy. The successful candidate will be expected to have a range of interests, to be active in research publications that strengthen or complement those in the department and to be capable of teaching the subject to undergraduate and taught postgraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds. Candidates will hold a doctorate in philosophy at the time of appointment and will be expected to show a commitment to outstanding teaching at all levels, from first-year undergraduate teaching to supervision of master’s degree dissertations. Informal enquiries about this post may be directed to the Head of Department, Dr Simon Prosser ([email protected]) or to Professor Jessica Brown ([email protected]). Your application should include a brief covering letter (no more than two pages, summarising your background and suitability for the role, including a brief summary of your research interests and teaching experience), and a CV (giving details of education, career to date, publications, teaching experience and any other information relevant to the person specification). You may also include supplementary material giving evidence of teaching ability, but please do not include writing samples or lengthy descriptions of your research at this stage. The Department of Philosophy is committed to providing an open, equitable, and inclusive work environment, which is free from bullying and harassment and welcoming to all. The School of Philosophical, Anthropological and Film Studies has received the Athena Swan bronze award. Applications are particularly welcome from women, people from the Black, Asian, Minority or Ethnic (BAME) community and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in Academic posts at the University.
