Job description

The Philosophy department at Gonzaga University in Spokane Washington invites applications for one full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning fall semester 2022. We seek candidates with an area of specialization in Medieval Philosophy or Non-Anglo-European Philosophy (including, but not limited to, African or African American, Latin American, Indigenous, etc.). We are open to the different areas of competence.

Successful applicants will teach 18 credits per year and will assume ongoing responsibility for teaching Reasoning (PHIL 101), a University core curriculum course. Applicants should include a description of their interest in and approach to this course in their Teaching Statement. Applicants should also be prepared to teach Philosophy of Human Nature (PHIL 201) as well as courses in their area of specialization, either for majors or for students in the core curriculum. We seek candidates that create inclusive learning environments to address the needs of diverse learners in their classes. The Philosophy department is mission centered and applicants must clearly address how they will contribute to Gonzaga’s mission in their cover letter. Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Philosophy by July 15, 2022.
• At least one year of teaching experience. • Evidence of teaching effectiveness.

Job Duties:
•Teach three courses per semester, with primary responsibility in Phil101/Reasoning. Applicants should also be prepared to teach Phil 201/Human Nature.
