The area of concentration (AOC) is FEMINIST PHILOSOPHY AND/OR MODERN PHILOSOPHY. The successful candidate must be able to teach an undergraduate Modern Philosophy course (i.e., 17th and 18th century epistemology and metaphysics from Descartes through Kant) as well as a variety of other undergraduate courses in the AOS and AOC. In addition, the successful candidate will be able and willing to teach a wide variety of undergraduate philosophy courses, including in at least some of the following areas: philosophy of mind, philosophy of science, environmental philosophy, metaphysics & epistemology, applied ethics, ethics, logic, philosophy of race/Africana philosophy, philosophy of art/aesthetics, and philosophy of film.

To be assured of full consideration, submit all materials (CV, cover letter, research statement, teaching portfolio, and writing sample) by November 1st, 2021—but please note that applications will be reviewed until the position is filled. Letters of recommendation may be requested by the hiring committee from select applicants during the search process.

Ph.D. in Philosophy must be in hand no later than August 15, 2022. Teaching experience is required.

The successful candidate will have a broad background in philosophy, will be committed to excellent undergraduate teaching, and will maintain an active record of scholarship through publications. Other responsibilities include developing and managing ongoing outcomes assessment procedures, student advising, curriculum development, serving as advisor to an undergraduate philosophy club, and service to the department, college, university, and broader community.

The Department of Philosophy & Religion currently has two tenure-stream faculty members, several full-time non-tenure-stream faculty, and offers a B.A. degree in Philosophy and a minor.
