Job description

The Wabash College Department of Philosophy invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor to begin July 1, 2022.  The initial appointment is for one-year with possibility of one-year renewal depending on the needs and circumstances of the college. We are looking for someone who can teach ethics and either ancient philosophy or philosophy of commerce, a course that focuses on primary texts and important concepts in political economy and its critiques. In addition, an ability to teach feminist philosophy or philosophy of race will be considered an asset. The teaching load of 3 /3 will consist of an ethics course each semester, with the opportunity to teach upper division courses. We provide mentoring in teaching and research for visiting faculty as well as support for conducting research. We are particularly interested in candidates who are committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching, have an appreciation for the broad intellectual community of an excellent liberal arts college, and have experience working with diverse undergraduate student populations.

Wabash is home to the Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020. Approximately 30% of our students are federal Pell Grant recipients, one-third of our students are first-generation college students, and about 20% of our students identify as domestic students of color. Wabash is a member of the USC Race and Equity Center’s Liberal Arts Colleges Racial Equity Leadership Alliance, a top-60 Liberal Arts College according to U.S. News, and a member of Colleges That Change Lives. Many students, staff, and faculty find the close-knit community of the residential college one of the most rewarding aspects of their time here.

Application review will begin on Jan 1, 2022. Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vita, teaching philosophy, a writing sample, email addresses for three persons who will submit confidential letters of recommendation, an ethics course syllabus, and unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts electronically at www.wabash.edu/employment/ . Candidates should have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment. Preliminary interviews with the department will be held via video conference in late January and early February. On campus interviews are expected to transpire in mid-March. Please contact the department Academic Administrative Coordinator Violet Benge at [email protected] or the Department Chair Adriel M. Trott [email protected] with any questions.

Wabash College, a liberal arts college for men, seeks faculty and staff who are committed to providing quality engagement with students, high levels of academic challenge and support, and meaningful experiences that prepare students for life and leadership among diverse populations around the globe. Wabash is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from persons of all backgrounds.
