Position Description The Department of Philosophy at San José State University seeks qualified candidates for a full-time assistant professor (tenure-track) or associate professor (tenured) position in Science and Values. We strongly encourage candidates with specialization in Philosophy of Science, STS, or other philosophical areas that grapple with ethical dimensions of scientific knowledge and scientific practice to apply. The Department of Philosophy is one of ten departments and schools in the College of Humanities and the Arts and offers Philosophy BA and MA programs. Ph.D. in Philosophy prior to appointment, with a focus on science and values Preferred Qualifications Priority will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following: Candidates whose research encompasses ethical dimensions of human relations with robotic and/or computer technologies Key Responsibilities In addition to courses in area of specialization, including Ethics in Science, the candidate will be expected to teach general education courses that could include Philosophy of Science; Introduction to Philosophy; Logic and Critical Reasoning; Moral Issues; Asian Philosophy; and Professional and Business Ethics. The current teaching load is 3 courses per semester (approximately 120 students per term) with service expectations at department, college, and university levels. Previous collective bargaining agreements (including that currently in force) have offered probationary faculty a reduced teaching load for their first two years on the tenure track.
