Job description

West Chester University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Philosophy invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position to begin in August 2022.  We are seeking candidates who have the ability to teach courses and conduct research in African American/Africana Philosophy or Philosophy of Race or Critical Race Theory and/or Indigenous/Native American Philosophy.

Minimum Qualifications: Successful candidates must: (1) possess a Ph.D. in Philosophy by August 30, 2022; (2) AOS in some combination of Philosophy of Race, African American/Africana Philosophy, Critical Race Theory, Indigenous/Native American Philosophy, Latinx Philosophy; (3) demonstrated ability to teach introductory ethics courses. (4) Articulate a scholarly agenda that complements department needs; (5) exhibit the potential to meet Department, College and University requirements for tenure & promotion, including a commitment to service; and (6) demonstrate a critical pedagogy and inclusion of post-colonial, diversity, and social justice issues in their syllabi.

Primary teaching responsibilities for this position will involve teaching courses in some combination of one’s area of specialization (such as, African/Africana Philosophy, or related content--see above), World Philosophies, and Intro to Ethics. Preferred qualifications: in addition, we are interested in candidates who can develop online or study abroad courses, can partner with Peace and Conflict Studies, Contemplative Studies and/or teach in our Religious Studies program, and is open to administrative leadership and shared governance.
